Join Cindy Goeddel in Yellowstone for a winter photography workshop focused on wildlife in snow, soft winter light, harsh mysterious landscapes, and the drama of winter survival. With two days in Lamar Valley and four full days in the park’s interior by private snow coach, this all-inclusive trip offers rare winter access and serious photographic opportunity. Meals, lodging, transportation, and as much instruction as you want are included.

We’ve secured ten full hours per day with our privately chartered snow coach, giving us rare flexibility to follow wildlife, light, and weather rather than a fixed route. Over four full days in Yellowstone’s interior, we may work the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Norris Geyser Basin, Hayden Valley, Yellowstone Lake, and the Geyser Basins—wherever conditions are strongest. Expect frosty bison, fox, otter, ermine, trumpeter swans, geothermal steam, ghost trees, and sweeping winter landscapes.

During our Lamar Valley days, we may encounter wolves, coyotes, foxes, moose, bighorn sheep, pronghorn, mule deer, bull elk, waterfowl, and eagles.

Details:

Day 1 – Saturday, February 20, 2027
9:00 AM: Pickup at either Bozeman Airport baggage claim or the Holiday Inn Express in Belgrade. Travel to Gardiner, Montana. After check-in, enjoy a digital photography lecture and slideshow covering manual exposure, photographing in snow, wildlife composition, and winter natural history, followed by a quick lunch. Then we will head out to photograph on the Northern Range until dark.

Day 2 – Sunday, February 21
6:30 AM: Depart Gardiner for Lamar Valley and photograph on the Northern Range all day.

Days 3–6 – Monday through Thursday, February 22–25
6:30 AM: Each morning, depart Gardiner for Mammoth Hot Springs to board our chartered snow coach and travel into Yellowstone’s interior. Destinations include Hayden Valley, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, the Geyser Basins, or Yellowstone Lake—wherever the wildlife and light lead us. Spend four full 10-hour days photographing via our private snowcoach.

Day 7 – Friday, February 26
6:30 AM: Photograph the travertine terraces at Mammoth Hot Springs in the morning light. We’ll also look for pronghorn, mule deer, elk, and bighorn sheep in the Gardiner Basin—and possibly moose or bull elk on the Blacktail Plateau. We’ll continue to photograph until 1:00 PM. Return to Bozeman Airport or the Holiday Inn Express in Belgrade, arriving by 3:00 PM. Depending on your flight schedule, an overnight stay in Bozeman may be necessary.
